Rabbi David Lau
Chief Rabbi, President
As the years pass and the Jewish people strengthen in their land, the longing for a young, high-quality, accessible and attentive rabbinic leadership grows ever greater - a leadership capable of connecting every Jew to the worlds of halacha and tradition, answering with clarity and listening with sensitivity.
During the last decade, since Rabbi David Lau entered the office of Chief Rabbi of Israel and served as president of the Chief Rabbinate and of the Supreme Rabbinical Court, the mission of connection to all sectors of the public has become a central agenda in the entire world of rabbinic leadership. More and more Jews from every part of the people see rabbis as a place of address for every question and difficulty, and as a source of strength and inspiration.
Out of a desire to continue and strengthen these trends, the Lau Center for Judaism is being established - for my brothers and sisters. Under the leadership of the former Chief Rabbi and President of the Supreme Rabbinical Court, Rabbi David Lau, the center brings together a yeshiva for training rabbis, a center for rabbinic mediation and arbitration, a chesed activity center for the needy and families coping with illness and bereavement, with a focus on those affected by the last war and the continuing life-force of the late Rabbi’s wife, Tzipora, and broad activities to make halachic and Torah content accessible to the public through multiple platforms and channels.
The Lau Center for Judaism is a place that connects and unites all parts of the people, a symbol and example of rabbinic leadership to which the eyes of the whole nation are raised. For my brothers and sisters.
