Rabbi David Lau

Rabbi David Lau served as Chief Rabbi of Israel and as head of the rabbinic courts for a decade, after many years in which he served as the beloved rabbi of the city of Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut since its founding.

Rabbi Lau comes from a distinguished rabbinic lineage, the son of Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau and a continuation of a tradition of connected and unifying rabbinic leadership.

His unique path is marked by accessibility, listening, and connection to all parts of the people while preserving Jewish tradition and halacha. In his public work, Rabbi Lau emphasizes making Judaism accessible to every person, turning the rabbinate into a warm and available address, and promoting respectful dialogue between the different sectors of Israeli society.

Lau Center for Judaism is a direct continuation of Rabbi Lau’s vision and decades of public activity, and seeks to continue his unique path of rabbinic leadership that combines commitment to halacha with openness and listening to the challenges of the age.
