Information you choose to provide
Providing information is voluntary, with no legal obligation to use these forms. Required fields are needed to handle the request and verify the email address; without them the online request cannot be completed. You may contact the office instead. Sending an inquiry does not subscribe you to promotional emails.
- Contact and activity inquiries: name, telephone, email and message, for responding and coordinating the requested service. Wedding requests also include the couple’s contact details and addresses, event date/location and optional notes. Submit another person’s details only with their permission.
- Questions to the Rabbi: name, phone, email, subject and question are held in the website database and sent by email to the team handling the inquiry. Questions may reveal health, family, religious or other sensitive information. Include only what is necessary; do not send ID documents, payment details or unnecessary identifying information.
- For new submissions, public publication is a separate optional choice. A question without publication consent is for private response. Publication requires editorial review and removal of identifying details. Phone and email fields are not displayed publicly. Published content can be indexed or copied by search engines and others.
- Newsletter: email address, the consent wording/version and language, request and verification times, and subscription/withdrawal records. Email verification confirms control of the mailbox. Unsubscribe using the link in the email or contact us; you do not need a website account.
Recipients, storage and retention
Information is available to authorized Lau Center staff and the Rabbi as needed for the request, and to hosting/database and email providers needed to operate the service. Contact and wedding inquiries are temporarily held for verification and then sent to the office and the address supplied; they are not written to a dedicated website inquiry table. Questions and answers remain in the database, including contact details available only to administrators. Copies may also exist in mailboxes, backups and service logs.
Unverified requests expire after two minutes (newsletter: five minutes), with periodic clearing of expired memory entries. Persistent database records and mailbox copies have no automatic deletion period in the website. Retention and deletion requests are handled by the Center, taking account of the purpose, applicable legal duties and necessary records. Contact us for details about providers, processing locations or a particular record. External services may process information outside Israel.
Cookies and external services
The website uses a language cookie (lau-lang, up to one year), an administrator session cookie (admin_token, up to twelve hours), and local browser preferences for the language suggestion, accessibility. Question view counts are aggregate; the old viewed_questions history cookie is cleared when a question is opened. No Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or Meta Pixel is installed in this version of the website.
The website loads external services for Google Maps, images, the Google News button, the Legilo accessibility tool and the Nedarim Plus (Matara) donation form. Playing YouTube or Facebook videos connects to the media provider. Some services load automatically with the page. These requests share your IP address and browser details with the provider, which may use cookies or similar technologies under its own policy. Payment card details are entered directly with the payment provider.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. This may affect external features and does not delete information already received by providers. Social media, WhatsApp and book purchase links open separate services when clicked.
Some editorial images may load directly from external image providers. These requests also share your IP address and browser details with the provider.
Your rights and security
You may request access to personal information about you under section 13 of the Privacy Protection Law and request correction of information that is incorrect, incomplete, unclear or out of date under section 14, subject to the law. You may also request withdrawal from mailing and ask about deletion or removal of published identifying information. Contact the address above; proportionate identity verification may be needed to protect your information. This policy does not limit your statutory rights.
The application restricts administrative access and applies input validation and security controls. Server logs may record network addresses and technical request details for operation and security. No system is completely immune to incidents. Material changes in the use of information require updated notice and, where necessary, new consent.
